Team Building

What is Team Building?

Team Building is an effective way to ensure the best perfomance of a group of people. Photo by Lumaxart It is the process of improving shared performance. Simply put it is helping a set of people improve the way they work together. It is important to understand that a group does not make a team. A group is just that - a collection of people.

However a team is a group of people working towards the same goal. Just like your football squad. If the side is working well, and everyone is doing their job; then they will probably perform to the best of their ability. On the other hand, if something is amiss within the side, then they usually struggle.

Let's keep imaging your local football side. When things are going well, the manager gets the credit. When things go wrong it is not unusual for outside help to be brought in to try and identify why the team is not performing well. A consultant usuallly performs this role. The consultant usually assesses, makes recommendations, and then provides activities or exercises in order to enhance their effectiveness. Once the activities or exercises have been completed, the consultant will then appraise the course and deliver a report with their recommendations.

Here are some examples of team activities:
Bound, Presence and Stranded In The Desert.

So we have established that a team is a group working towards the same goal. What happens if one member of the group does not share that goal? Or perhaps individuals are experiencing personal problems that affect their performance. Sometimes we do not have the choice who we work with and simply do not get on with another member. Maybe one member feels he or she is undervalued or someone thinks that they would make a better leader. Any single or combination of these examples could seriously affect the team's performance. Specifically designed activities or exercises can be an effective way to identify and resolve issues and in so doing improve efficiency and productivity.

An effective employee team-building course will explore and identify problems where traditional methods have failed and in so doing create a more contented, dedicated and productive team.

Using our directory you can locate many useful resources from all over the world. Whether you, your company, your organisation or your clients are in the UK, USA, China, Africa, Australia, Asia, Canada or any other part of the world, we are sure there is something useful for you in there.

A good course will address issues in the team such as:
Communication
Development
Dynamics
The effect of behaviour and personalities

Suitable group exercises can compose a range of tasks designed to develop individual group members and increase their ability to work together effectively.

There are many types of activities ranging from kids games to complex events which may take place in an unfamiliar setting away from the workplace - such as paintball or a team survival course. The purpose of these exercises are to assist teams in becoming organized units of individuals that can effectively work together to complete tasks.

Again here are some examples of team activities:
