Personal Development Planning

What is Personal Development and Personal Development Planning?
Personal Development explained simply is the process of moving forward. This can be spiritually, emotionally, academically or professionally. What matters is recognising and constructing a Personal development plan in order to address or achieve the goals you have set.
The importance of constantly improving yourself cannot be stressed enough. If there is one thing that most people strive for it is improvement. Whether this is expressed in your personal relationships or in your progression in your professional life, we all want to be the best person we can be.
Your PD Plan does not have to be complicated – You can find many sample PD plans and free PD plan templates available online, the important thing is to choose one that is right for you.
What is PDP?
Personal development planning or PDP is a method of self-analysis that allows you to consider possible opportunities in a structured manner by identifying goals and targets.
Ask yourself questions such as:
What do I want to achieve from life?
What kind of person do I want to be?
What are my personal goals and ambitions?
Am I making the right decisions to get me
where I really want to be?
Once you have identified your goal or objective, transfer them to your PDP and you will be able to identify what actions are
needed for you to achieve your objectives.
Do you need to undergo any training? Are you ready to ask for that promotion? Perhaps you now realise it is time to make a commitment in your current relationship? By setting yourself a timeframe to complete each step towards your goal or objective, your plan will serve as a blueprint to progress.
Writing down your short term, medium term and long term goals will allow you to keep a constant reminder of what you want to do and how you will do it. By regularly updating your plan you will be able to monitor your progress and make any changes that may affect your plan.
If you have a good PD plan and follow the actions through, the benefits of PD planning to your career and personal life can include:
A better understanding of yourself and how you work.
Developing a positive, forward-looking approach.
Being in a better position to make choices to achieve your goals.
Greater awareness of your needs and how to meet these.
Greater awareness of the unique contribution you can make.
Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.
